On Saturday April 14th, 26 volunteers participated in the Potomac Watershed Cleanup of Mason State Park. Participants included Arlington Fairfax Chapter members as well as Boy Scouts from Centreville Troop 1137 and Venture Crew 10. Trash was largely absent from the areas we cleaned last January, likely due to the lack of significant rainfall over the past few months.
There was however a heavy concentration of styrofoam and plastic bottles in the woods and wetlands along the Parks Occoquan Bay frontage. Volunteers walked about a mile to Sandy Point.
Lorton Cub Scout Pack 150 also helped out.
Scott Jones, frequent volunteer at Mason Neck transporting some of the collected trash by canoe.
21 bags of trash were collected as well as 8 tires, total weight 936 pounds.
