On Saturday June 2nd, 62 people participated in a shoreline cleanup of Mason Neck State Park as part the 24th annual Clean the Bay Day sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
A cold front had passed through the area the previous day which produced some heavy downpours during the night. In the morning it was sunny and cool but windy conditions and high water which limited our operations somewhat.
The total weight of the trash collected was 781 pounds
Scott Jones and Marshall Osborne ferry volunteers over an outlet of one of the wetland areas.
Wind produced waves and whitecaps on Belmont Bay.
Trash along most of the shoreline was surprisingly sparse compared to previous years. Mostly bits of styrofoam and plastic
Participants included several employees from Price Waterhouse Cooper, Dell Computers and Jorge Scientific
Total weight of trash collected was 781 pounds which included 12 bags of trash and 9 car tires.
