Tickets for Chapter Picnic Now On Sale

June 19, 2011

Tickets for the Chapter Picnic on July 9th are now available for purchase from any of the field houses or members of the Board of Directors. Cost per ticket is $ 8.00 for Chapter members and their immediate family, $10.00 for Guests. Tickets for children ages 6- 13 are $5.00 and children under 6 eat free.

Activities will include hay rides, horseshoes and for the kids there will be pony rides and a moon bounce. Of course there is always fishing in the pond. If you don't have fishing equipment of your own you can borrow one of the Chapter's spincast rods. The picnic will start at 10:30 am and lunch is to be served at 1:00 pm. The menu will include BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork BBQ, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Potato Salad, Coleslaw and Baked Beans. Also you will have your choice of cold beverages including beer if you are so inclined and are 21 or older.

The ballot for the 2011 Chapter Elections will be finalized at the Chapter Membership Meeting this coming Tuesday June 21, 2011. Any member in good standing who wishes to run for Chapter office should contact John Seaberg at John.Seaberg@arlingtonfairfax-iwla.org or express their intention to run at the Membership Meeting.
The following positions are up for election this year.

Membership Chairman
Director of Rifle/Pistol
Director of Field Archery
Director of Education
Director at Large (4 positions)

Be sure to drop by the Chapter Field house on either July 9th, 10th, 16th or 17th and cast your vote. Ballots will be accepted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

Milo Orem Passes Away

December 31, 2010

Long time Chapter Member, Range Officer and Chapter Volunteer, Michael Leconte Orem passed away on December 20, 2010 after a long illness. He was 62 years of age.

Shotgun Range Now Open to Standard Hours

Lead Recovery Effort Completed

At the October Chapter Board of Directors meeting, Shotgun Chairman Bob Brino presented a check in the amount of 15 thousand dollars to the treasurer as the Chapters share of the proceeds from the lead recovery.

Limited Operating Hours for Shotgun Range

August 8, 2010

Due to a lead recovery effort at trap and skeet, the shotgun ranges will only be open on Wednesdays from 12 noon to 5 pm and on Sundays from 8 am to 5 pm until further notice.

Benn Crandall appointed to the Chapters Board of Directors

At the August 3rd Board of Directors Meeting, the members of the Board voted unanimously to appoint Benn Crandall to fill the At Large Seat on the Board vacated by John Seaberg after his election as Conservation Director.

Conservation Director Calls For Volunteers

The Ballot for the 2010 Chapter elections was finalized at the Chapter Membership meeting last Tuesday June 15th with no new nominations coming from the floor.

Help needed at Polls in Upcoming Chapter Elections

June 1, 2010

At the Chapter Board Meeting tonight, the Chairman of the election committee, Jim Smith said that he needs more Chapter members to staff the polls at the Chapter elections this July. Also the deadline for getting on the Ballot is the June 15th Membership meeting. Jim Smith can be contacted at 703-481-5416. Randy Hancock appointed to the Chapters Board of Directors.

At the June 1st Board of Directors Meeting, the members of the Board voted unanimously to appoint Randy Hancock to fill the vacancy on the Board left by Wendell Thompson's passing.

Trees and Brush Removed from Dam

May 30, 2010

Prospective Eagle Scout, Henry Pike, a number of Scouts from Troop 1137 and several Chapter Members spent much of the Memorial Day weekend removing trees and brush from the dam as part of the Dam rehabilitation project.

Funeral for Wendell Thompson Next Thursday

May 30, 2010

Wendell Harry Thompson, a long time Chapter Board Member and range officer passed away last Thursday, May 27th after a long illness. The funeral service is to be held Thursday June 3, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Demaine Funeral Home 5308 Backlick Road Springfield, VA. His obituary can be found on in the May 30, 2010 edition of the Washington Post on page C8.

Work to Begin on the Chapters Dam This Weekend

This weekend, work will begin on the Dam Rehabilitation project for the Chapters Ponds. As a first phase, Henry Pike has taken on the task of removing all the small trees and brush from the structure as his Eagle scout project. He and other volunteers will be working there on Saturday May 29th and Sunday May 30th from 8am to 4pm. He can use all the help that he can get for this important project. Trout in the Pond

April 27, 2010

The Chapter's Pond has been stocked with 350 rainbow trout and will be open for fishing by the membership on May 1st. Please note that there is a creel limit of two per day and that anyone above the age of 16 years must have a valid Virginia Freshwater Fishing License.
