On the afternoon of May 4, 2008, 9 volunteers from the Arlington Fairfax Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America collected over 250 pounds of trash from Bull Run downstream of the Route 28 Access Point. While much of this debris was collected from the shore, a great deal was fished out of the water by volunteers wading in Bull Run. Where the water was too deep to wade, trash was picked up using a kayak.
