Significant progress was made in cleaning the Chapter's adopted section of Cub Run on on September 12th . 8 volunteers removed almost 600 pounds of floodborne trash from a half mile of shoreline of the stream. Participants included Chapter members Vinnie Caporale, Jim Lauver, Josh Massey, Chuck Overpeck, and Bob Muzzio as well as David and Michael Schneeman from Boyscout Troop 1137. The weather was cloudy and somewhat cool for this time of year creating perfect conditions for the physically demanding effort.
Most of debris that was collected were the usual plastic bags,sheet plastic, bits of styrofoam, and beverage containers. Enough in fact to fill 27 trash bags. Additional bulk items carried out were two automobile tires, a car battery, a compressor and pieces of what appeared to be a standing freezer.

Virtually all the trash that is picked up from cub run originates from the storm drains of local roads such as route 29 and route 66 where rainwater washes it into the stream
This event was part of Stewardship Virginia , a semiannual initiative of the Commonwealth of Virginia to encourage State Residents to participate in events and projects which preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of Virginia.
