On Saturday April 5th, 12 volunteers from the Chapter collected more than 500 lbs of trash and debris from the shoreline of Mason Neck State Park as part of the 20th annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation.
The previous evenings weather forecast called for showers in the morning. Fortunately it did not rain but the weather forecast likely reduced the turnout and wind and high water on the Potomac River made the work particularly challenging.
One of our members, Scott Cerrone used his motor boat to ferry some of the volunteers past areas of the shoreline covered at high tide as well as transporting the bulk of the trash collected to the disposal area. This enabled the other volunteers to concentrate on collecting and bagging trash.
